nerdvention update! and after the weather, a grandma burn

at about 2p I made it back from my weekend with the nerds, Pat and Elena. goodtimes were had by all, especially for those of us who were sober enough to enjoy Fallon, yet drunk enough to laugh at everything he had to offer. no pictures this time, so instead here's my top 10 list:

10) driving around for an hour in Bloomington to find a restaurant that is a) open past midnight, and b) not Denny's. hint: they don't exist.
9) Pat leaving the keycard in the door after bringing in his swag.
8) 12:48p: I order a Jack Daniels cheeseburger, cooked to medium, sans onions.
7) 12:49p: Pat orders the EXACT SAME THING.
6) Mario Party. at least I beat the gamecube.
5) everyone forgets where the car is parked on Saturday morning.
4) amaretto and Jennifer Garner
3) watching Pat fail at defending himself against Elena's attacks. repeatedly.
2) 'Jacob? it's Ehren from nohomers.' 'uh, that's cute.'
1) spending the weekend with two awesome nerdfriends.

also tonight, I suffered severe burnination from the grandmother as we were out at a moderately priced restaurant. it seems she and my aunt had gone on a cruise off the Florida coast and since she was in the metro area she wanted to get the fam together for a big meal. as it turns out, she has souvenir swag to distribute, like any good grandma should. when it came time for me to get mine, she asked me to stand up and receive it. and, unfortunately, unlike the Florida merchandise mine was much more embarassing. it turned out be a twist on those dinosaur sponges that was in the shape of a two inch tall busty woman, labeled 'Grow Your Own Girlfriend'. shocked and mortified, I slunk back to my chair while everyone else shared a jolly laugh at my expense. I then turned on the iPod and tuned everything out till my aunt sneezed and spewed saliva all over the table in front of me and everyone finally decided to leave. my grandma and aunt later apologized for the ill-timed joke. I'm just glad I didn't just weep into my chicken, because I sure as hell wanted to.

Apple did it to me again

from the Strib via AP (emphasis mine):
CUPERTINO, Calif. -- Apple Computer Inc. on Wednesday released new versions of its popular iPod digital music player, cutting prices and expanding memory capacities.
The price of the 4-gigabyte iPod mini was cut $50 to $199. A new 6-gigabyte version will sell for $249.
The 60-gigabyte "iPod photo,'' which can display photos on its small color screen or when connected to a TV set, was cut from $599 to $449. A new 30-gigabyte model for $349 replaces a 40-gigabyte version for $499.

I really wants that shirt.

so anyway, we got snow yesterday and the day before. SNOW! on my birthday!! what bitches. anyhoo, it was enough of a blanket of snow to require professional removal, so last night the city of St. Paul sent a crack team of snow assassains to my street... at 4:00a. so there I am, sleeping peacefully, when a low rumble loud enough to signify the Rapture wakes me up. at first I thought it might be thunder, because we did have some earlier this winter when we were getting Aprilesque temps, but when I looked outside to peep the eerie February moonlight, I heard it again. and it was loud, and it frightened me. then, as I woke up more, I remembered the PLOWS. I fumbled in the dark to get upstairs into the kitchen and as I turn to the dinette window I'm blinded by the massive headlight of a full blown Bobcat, or 'digger' as my nephew Seth calls them. there are 2 others, along with a sand truck, on my tiny cul de sac, dragging their plow blades along the asphalt and creating the low rumble I heard several times before. I wish I had thought to bring my camera up, it would have made an awesome picture.

'...so there was nothing to worry about all along!' Nancy Drew exclaimed.

thumbsup

so I'm sure by now you've noticed design tweaks on the website here. I moved the forums link to the left sidebar, where it should have been to start with, removed the non-working searchbox, added a couple of music related things to it, and made major revisions to the right sidebar. the biggest change is I cleaned off all bloglinks and moved them to Linkland, where they reside with thunbnail size screens and full descriptions. I also added a features linklist which will allow you to see the most recent piles I decide to throw on the server. Enjoy!

MPR is serious.

I made one of my routine stops to the Onion website today, and I found this:

apparently Minnesota Public Radio isn't fucking around. I assume that ad space on the Onion is probably pretty pricey and they nabbed not one, but TWO ad spots on their front page. hopefully this doesn't go to their head and they still put out good radio like they have been the past 2 weeks.

Also, a new blog was brought to my attention at http://www.boofberg.blogspot.com. check it out; the random humor is priceless. in just a matter of time, it will join the rest of my links off in Linkland...

here's to hoping...

...93X goes off the air soon. the "active (read: completely shitty) rock" station turned in one of its lowest Arbitron books since switching to its current format in 1997.

oh, also, I didn't have to wear a coat today. how freakin' sweet is that?

the weather (again)

February 3, and I have my windows open. Who'da thunk?

in an atmosphere that is reminiscent of this post, I am once again amazed and just a little bit weirded out by that weather there. as I left school, the sun shone brightly, and here is what you'd find on the Yahoo weather page:

thusly, people are more happy, the air is better, and all of that dirty snow has started to melt off. and it only gets better: 40's and 50's predicted throughout the weekend.

Spring is in the air, ladies. (Hint, hint.)

[09:18 PM] summergirlie03: haha

Here's the proof:

You Are 19 Years Old

19

Under 12: You are a kid at heart. You still have an optimistic life view - and you look at the world with awe.

13-19: You are a teenager at heart. You question authority and are still trying to find your place in this world.

20-29: You are a twentysomething at heart. You feel excited about what's to come... love, work, and new experiences.

30-39: You are a thirtysomething at heart. You've had a taste of success and true love, but you want more!

40+: You are a mature adult. You've been through most of the ups and downs of life already. Now you get to sit back and relax.
