I love MySpace but....

I really, really disike the morons there. for example:
  • people who put like, 8 thousand huge ass images in their page, especially where you're supposed to indicate your interests [example]. look, if you can't use words well I understand. but PLEASE, keep the posting of pro-wrestling whore pix to a minimum. mmkay? greeeat.
  • pages with random moving images and/or a huge ass high contrast jpeg smack in the middle of their page. oh and also, whoever created the myspace CSS editor should've created some type of filter to weed out unsightly color combinations and literally painful page layouts.
  • the same goes for any of you fuckers who put embedded videos in your profiles. music is great. uh, except for yours. every once in a while I come across a good one, like Mayer or Pat McGee. I even saw an Oakenfold video today. but the vast majority are claptrap like Incubus, Sum 41 or Lil Jon featuring the Eastside Boyz , Fitty, Ludacris, Andre 5000, Juvenile, P. Diddy, etc. but videos are tolerable compared to...
  • fucking background music! at least videos you can stop. look bitches, I'm trying to browse the internets here while kicking back to Mandy or Josh Kelley or whatever. I don't want that interrupted by your lame ass MIDI version of 'My Heart Will Go On' on an endless loop. otherwise things could get very unpleasant.
that's it for now.

Strib: Too many kids at loose ends

linky. from the article:
Minnesota leads the nation in the proportion of teenagers who spend time alone after school. University of Minnesota President Robert Bruininks, who created the commission, said the report provides a different goal for the state. The report suggests that by 2010, 80 percent of Minnesota youth ages 5 to 18 should be involved in some kind of quality after-school activity.

That could include anything from Boy Scouts, church groups, baseball teams and clubs to music and arts programs. Now, Bruininks said, about half of Minnesota children are not participating in any structured after-school or summer programs. Research shows those kids are more likely to be involved in risky behavior, including drug use, excessive smoking, sexual activity and neglect of school work.
Heaven forbid that kids actually have unstructured time on their hands. of course, I can also see the other side of this issue. after all, we don't want the suburbs turning out any more copies of this kid:

Hi, I'm Ehren. Welcome to my website.

I am a straight-shooter with a heart of gold and balls of steel. I coach a hard-luck peewee hockey team full of working-class misfits. My sweat is considered currency in developing nations. I once appeared nude on a Wheaties box. I operate a greasy-spoon diner on the outskirts of humanity. Also, I'm afraid of clowns and small children.
